Each year, FIBO donates its net proceeds to nonprofit organizations benefiting the LGBT community. FIBO has donated more than $10,000 to nonprofit charities.
This year, FIBO continues to be an outreach organization and is proud to announce our partnership with Greater Than AIDS (www.greaterthan.org), a national movement that responds to the AIDS crisis in Black America and other heavily affected audiences. The FIBO > AIDS partnership will include messaging and distribution of informational materials at FIBO 2011 events. Additionally, FIBO is helping to raise funds for the Black AIDS Institute, a co-founder of Greater Than AIDS.
There are approximately 1.1 million Americans living with HIV/AIDS today –approximately 500,000 are Black. African Americans represent nearly half (45%) of the new HIV infections in the United States, and 50% of the annual AIDS related deaths in the U.S.are Black. Two-thirds of the new HIV cases among women and almost 70% of the new cases among youth in the U.S.are Black. AIDS is a leading cause of death for Black Americans aged 25-44. No matter how you measure it, through the lens of gender, sexual orientation, age, class, level of education, or region of the country where you live, Black people bear the brunt of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the U.S.today.
FIBO encourages our attendees, partners, and supporters to join us in contributing to the fight against HIV/AIDS by making tax deductible donation to the Black AIDS Institute. Please click here to donate.
